IFG Hackathon 2022 Winners: DeGaYa, Indonesia

On 12 May 2022, Mishcon de Reya hosted an event to announce the winners of the first International Fraud Group (IFG) Hackathon. The hackathon was organised in conjunction with Stop The Traffik and Traffik Analysis Hub, leaders in the fight against people trafficking.

The competition ran over three months and featured participation from almost a thousand teams from 101 countries around the world. The teams were asked to create a prototype solution that could scan available company data and highlight examples of suspected people trafficking within the palm oil industry.

Shortlisted submissions were reviewed by a judging panel comprising Ruth Dearnley OBE, CEO of Stop The Traffik, Clive Humby OBE, Principal at H&D Advisory, Dr. Jasmine Grimsley Ph. D, Chief Technical Advisor at The London Data Company and Neil Giles, CEO of the Traffik Analysis Hub.

The team that emerged victorious was DeGaYa, hailing from Indonesia. Whilst they had enjoyed some success in other hackathons in Indonesia this was their first international recognition. The judges praised the use of third-party data within the solution and “almost perfect storytelling” with their data visualisation.

The IFG’s partnership with Stop The Traffik is part of the Group’s commitment to use their world-leading ability to disrupt illegal financial activities as a force for good.

This video features a summary of the hackathon journey and a demo of the winning submission is available here.
